The accurate completion of your college scholarship application is critical to the success of your search for college funding! You must make sure that all parts are accurate, complete and meets the requirements set forth in the college scholarship application form instructions. There is NO room for error here – so don’t take this process lightly!

Here are 5 common mistakes you want to avoid!

1) Proofread your application! Even small spelling mistakes can cause an application to be disqualified. Typos don’t count – spell check can still miss grammatical errors. Proof your application several times – and have others read it as well! And it’s not just for spelling errors either – make sure your personal data is correct: age, GPA, batting averages or football stats – anything that could affect whether or not you get the scholarship should be absolutely accurate. There is no room for error on your college scholarship application!

2) Another big no-no is leaving blank spaces. If a question or statement is not applicable to your situation, then write Does Not Apply or DNA in the space. Just never leave the line blank.

3) Follow the directions EXACTLY! If it says to type the form – then you must submit a typewritten form. Even if a hand written form is acceptable – use black ink, and never write in pencil, and never use whiteout.

4) Make sure you submit or mail your scholarship application in plenty of time for the deadline. You would not believe how many scholarships are lost because the application was received after the deadline. Don’t let that happen to you!

5) Be sure to sign your scholarship application! In most cases, both you and your parent must both print and sign the forms. Applications without the proper signatures are automatically disqualified.
